The Pirates just announced that they have agreed on a four-year extension with the Indianapolis team which is their Class AAA affiliate, through 2012. As much as Pittsburgh fans hate Indianpolis fans, its hard to make them sit through that. Now I’ve been to the stadium and it’s a very nice place to watch a game, its just the people that have to play on the field. Now the AAA team isn’t as bad as the big club but I would like to see a best out of 7 to see who really belong in town.

Short Stop A GO-GO

Well all the news outlets are reporting that Bixler will be starting tonight’s game at short stop. I remember a few years back that he was the err apparent of Jack Wilson, looks like his time is here, at least for a little bit anyways. This kid was supposed to be a better version of Jack, but I’m not seeing it. Take a look at the stats from last year.

Jack Wilson 12 Home Runs, 56 RBI’s and a .296 Batting average.

Brian Bixler 5 Home Runs, 51 RBI’s and .274 Batting Average.

They look pretty close to me, only difference Jack made $5.4 million in 2007 and I’m sure Bixler is making league minimum.  So if the Pirates do start sliding look again for the team to try and trade out Jack. Don’t get me wrong I’m a Pirate fan, its just hard to see any progress what so ever.

Even the writers are over the team

This comes from the Post Gazette’s Q&A setion today. The question was did you have to rewrite your story during the comeback.

“KOVACEVIC: I had it about half-done, yes, focusing mostly on Gorzelanny’s outing, Rivas’ defense, some rather uninspiring at-bats and the generally miserable recent history of home openers here. That was erased by the fifth inning. Then, it was rewritten twice for the Web and again for the final newspaper version that does not go onto the Web until midnight.”

When you can have a story done by the third inning and pretty much phone it in thats not a pretty site.
